Hi! My name is Mrs. Reid; I'll be your 4th grade teacher and I’m so excited for our upcoming school year! I am so eager to meet you and your family. We’re going to have a fantastic year in 4th grade.
Before we meet, I'd like to share information about me. I just moved to Denver all the way from Virginia; I lived just a few miles outside of Washington D.C. Although Virginia was my home for me with my husband, dog (Indy), and two cats (Fifi and Ruthie), it isn't where I grew up. I grew up in upstate New York, just next to Niagara Falls, with 3 older sisters and 1 older brother. In a family of 5 kids and 2 parents, guess how many of us are teachers! Tell me your guess at Open house (there are clues in this letter!)
Do you know what you want to be when you grow up? Starting in 3rd grade I knew I wanted to be a teacher because I love school! So, I went to college in New York and studied Elementary and Spanish education. I loved learning Spanish so much that I moved to Mexico to teach for 2 years after graduation! Then, my big sister convinced me to move to Virginia to live with her. At the time she was a 4th grade teacher. In VA, I earned my Master's Degree in teaching in a multicultural/multilingual classroom. I was a a 3rd grade teacher for 5 years and then for 2 years I was a teacher for students learning English as a second language. For the past 2 years I taught 6th grade. As you can see, I'm very welcoming to new opportunities so without a doubtI'm looking forward to teaching 4th grade at Edison Elementary School!
Much of my time is dedicated to teaching, but I have hobbies too. I enjoy reading, playing soccer, practicing yoga, and gardening. I love skiing, snowboarding and hiking (even in the winter), so you can see why we moved to Colorado! My husband and I just bought a house here and will be expecting a baby at the end of 2016, so I’m sure I’ll be learning a lot about house decorating! Something that you will learn quickly is that I love animals! If I could have things my way, I would live on a farm. I’d love to know what your hobbies and interests are!
You and I are going to be spending a lot of time in our classroom together so here is what you can expect. You should expect to learn a lot from me and from your peers, so I expect you to be ready for the day. I like to joke a lot and have fun, but work hard. You should expect a challenging, energetic, and playful yet hardworking classroom!
Now, it’s my turn to learn about you, which I’m excited about. I hope to see you August 18th at Back to School Night from 5:00-7:00pm. We’re going to have a great school year, starting from the first day of School on August 22nd. Enjoy the rest of the summer!
